The Chief of Defence Staff receives the Supreme Allied Commander Europe

  • General Christopher Cavoli, on an official visit to Spain, has also met with King Felipe VI and with the Minister of Defence.

The Chief of Defence Staff , Admiral General Teodoro E. López Calderón, received the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR),  General Christopher Cavoli on Wednesday in Madrid.

Upon his arrival at the Defence Staff Headquarters, General Cavoli was received with honours by the Chief of Defence Staff and other military authorities.

Following the formal greetings a working meeting was held which was also attended by the Commander-in-Chief of the Combined Air Operations Centre, Lieutenant General Fernando de la Cruz Caravaca, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Lieutenant General Fernando García González-Valerio, and the Commander of the Operations Command, Lieutenant General Francisco Braco Carbó, among other military authorities.

This meeting served to highlight Spain's commitment and contribution to NATO.

SACEUR's official visit to Madrid began on Tuesday. Upon his arrival he was received by the commander of the Combined Air Operations Centre in Torrejón, Lieutenant General Fernando de la Cruz Caravaca, with whom he held a brief meeting.

On Wednesday, following the meetings at the Headquarters of Defence General Staff, the Chief of the Defence Staff accompanied General Cavoli to the Ministry of Defence where he met with the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, later they went to the Zarzuela Palace where he was received in audience by His Majesty King Felipe VI.
