At 10:00 a.m. the special activities that will take place in Huesca until next Saturday 28th on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day were inaugurated. Major General Carlos J. Melero Claudio, Head of the 'Castillejos Division', the Mayor of Huesca, Luis Felipe Serrate and the Subdelegate of the Government in Huesca, Silvia Salazar were in charge of cutting the opening ribbon of the static exhibition that has been organised on the esplanade of the Huesca Conference Centre. At the opening ceremony they were accompanied by General Javier Mur Lalaguna, Chief of the 'Brigada Aragón I' and by Colonel Rafael Matilla, Subdelegate of Defence, among other military and civilian authorities.
During the inauguration, General Mur stressed the importance of the DIFAS for society to discover and approach the Armed Forces. He stressed that 'Spain has a technological and modern Armed Forces, with an important contribution from the Spanish defence industry'. He also highlighted the professionalism of the members of the Armed Forces, and lastly, he said that he hoped that this static and dynamic exhibition 'will be a great opportunity for young people to learn about the career options that the military profession offers them'.
Afterwards, Colonel Jose Félix Martínez Hernández, head of the 20th Field Artillery Regiment (RACA 20), explained the resources and personnel taking part in this exhibition, as well as the displays that will be exhibit on the esplanade. This unit has been in charge of the assembly and organisation of the exhibition, which includes material and personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, UME and Guardia Civil.
Subsequently, the dynamic exhibitions featuring the LEOPARDO tank and the PIZARRO Infantry Combat Vehicle drew large crowds, as well as the exhibition carried out by the UME, consisting of the implementation of three types of rescue system.
A hot air balloon is also installed on the Esplanade, allowing visitors to soar a few metres above the ground.
