The Spanish CHOD takes part in the meeting of the European Union Military Committee

• The European Chiefs of Staff discussed the ‘Strategic Compass’ and the lessons learned from the COVID-19 crisis, among other issues

The Chief of Defence Staff (JEMAD in Spanish), Air General Miguel Ángel Villarroya, took part in the meeting of the European Union Military Committee (EUMC), held by videoconference due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the meeting, the Chiefs of Defence (CHOD) of  EU's member countries discussed the German initiative known as 'Strategic Compass', the political guide that aims to clarify the strategic priorities of the Common Security and Defence Policy for the EU Global Strategy.

CHOD's also discussed the evolution of the structures of the EU Military Staff (EUMS) and the Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC). They also discussed the relationships between EU and NATO and the lessons learned from the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Josep Borrell, as High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, attended the virtual meeting.
