- He held a meeting with the staff working in this unit.
On the occasion of his recent appointment, the CSEL to the Spanish CHOD, Pedro Hilario Medina Oliver, visited the Spanish Verification Unit (UVE), under the command of Colonel Carlos Javier Armada Vázquez.
Located in the same location as the Central Defence Academy, the UVE depends organically on the Joint Chiefs of Staff (EMACON), which belongs to the Defence Staff (EMAD).
During the visit, the CSEL held a meeting with the unit's non-commissioned officers and then went to the unit's premises to meet with personnel belonging to the Operations, Logistics, Information and Open Skies groups.
The Spanish Verification Unit is the unit responsible for ensuring compliance with the arms control treaties signed by most European countries, within the framework of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), in order to promote greater openness and transparency in their military activities, and to contribute to the development and strengthening of peace, stability and international security. The Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE), the Vienna Document (VD 2011) and the Treaty on Open Skies form the fundamental basis of the SVU's activities.
