The Command Senior Enlisted Leader to the Spanish Chief of defence staff attends international week in Hungary

The Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) of the Defence Staff has represented Spain at the 10th International CSEL Week held at the Military Recreation, Training and Conference Centre in Balatonakarattya (Hungary) from 7 to 11 November.

The conference, which takes place on an annual basis, was organised by CSEL of the Hungarian Armed Forces. It was attended by 43 participants from NATO Headquarters and NATO member and partner countries (PfP - Partners for Peace).

This event has grown over the successive editions, increasing its relevance with the contribution and exchange of knowledge and experience of the participating CSELs. It also provides an opportunity to discuss common interests and existing or developing strategies for defining the future of non-commissioned officers and troop and sailor personnel in the medium and long term.

This year's event again addressed the ongoing review of the "NATO Non-Commissioned Officers Bi-Strategic Command Strategy and NCO Guidelines" concerning the professional development of non-commissioned officers and troop and sailor personnel in the NATO environment.

Among the different lectures that were held, the one given by the second chief of the Hungarian Armed Forces (DCHOD HDF), Lieutenant General Zsolt Sándor, who spoke about the necessary restructuring of the Armed Forces of his country due to the new tasks, capabilities and challenges that have to be faced, was particularly noteworthy. He also highlighted the role of non-commissioned officers and troop and sailor personnel and the need for their proper training, using the example of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine as an example.

Apart from the different lectures and issues discussed, it is worth highlighting the opportunity that this type of event offers to interrelate with senior CSELs from different cultures and countries, and to share with them different points of view and experiences. This allows the creation and consolidation of both professional and personal ties and facilitates the management of any issues concerning our personnel in the international arena.
