The Chief of Defence inaugurates the IADEF Conference on Artificial Intelligence applied to National Defence

•  The Joint Cyber Command has been invited to this meeting, in which the Commander of this Unit has participated as moderator of a round table discussion

The Polytechnic University hosted the first Strategic Cooperation Conference on AI for National Defence, IADEF 25. The event was opened by the Chief of Defence (JEMAD), Admiral General Teodoro Esteban López Calderón, and received institutional support from the Ministry of Defence.

The Joint Cyber Command (MCCE) was represented by Vice Admiral Javier Roca, commander of the Command, who participated as moderator in the round table discussion ‘Strategic vision of AI and its place in the defence industry’. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of using Artificial Intelligence as a necessary tool for combat in cyberspace. ‘The worst thing that companies and administrations can do with regard to AI is not to use it,’ said Vice Admiral Roca.

In this context, Enrique Ávila, responsable of the AI Reference Centre of the Defence Staff (EMAD), reiterated that artificial intelligence is no longer a technological promise but has become the core of the transformation of national defence. Its convergence with cybersecurity and strategic management and data sovereignty marks the new operational horizon for the Armed Forces, public institutions and the technology industry. AI and cybersecurity are now two inseparable axes.
