Attendees learnt about the MCCE’s technological and artificial intelligence capabilities

The Joint Cyberspace Command (MCCE) has welcomed students from the 55th National Defence Course, organised by the Higher Centre for National Defence Studies (CESEDEN), as part of an institutional visit to Retamares Base, which also included a visit to the Operations Command (MOPS).

In his welcome lecture, the commander of the MCCE, Vice-Admiral Javier Roca, outlined the Command’s mission and capabilities, as well as its work to ensure the Armed Forces’ freedom of action in the fifth domain of operations. He also emphasised the importance of the human factor over technological advances, noting that “for the Command, the only thing that matters is people”.

The vice-admiral emphasised the importance of defending the digital environment in order to protect the rights and freedoms of society as a whole. “If something is important, it will be attacked via cyberspace. Every conceivable threat is now possible, and even those we cannot even imagine,” he said.

The visit by students from the 55th National Defence Course to the MCCE also included a demonstration of the capabilities of the Defence Staff’s Artificial Intelligence Reference Centre (CRIA), where they were shown the technological capabilities being developed by the MCCE in this field. The presentation focused on applications designed to strengthen cyberspace, which is regarded as the fifth domain in which national sovereignty is exercised.

Through this initiative, the MCCE is making progress towards its aim of raising awareness amongst members of society of its work in defending the fifth domain and promoting a culture of cyber defence.
