Margarita Robles expresses her gratitude for the work carried out by our Armed Forces one day after visiting Ceuta
The Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, visited the Operations Command (MOPS), based at Retamares Air Base in Pozuelo de Alarcón, to meet with Lieutenant General José Antonio Agüero Martínez, Commander of the Operations Command, who briefed her on the situation regarding the contingents currently deployed.
This meeting took place the day after the minister visited Ceuta; she therefore took the opportunity to share her experiences there and to thank all the military personnel present for the work they do. She also stated that the Spanish Armed Forces are held in high regard beyond our borders.
Following the meeting, the Minister had the opportunity to liaise via videoconference with three key detachments abroad: the frigate Numancia, which is carrying out its mission in the Horn of Africa as part of Operation EUNAVFOR ‘Atalanta’; the ‘Task Force’ deployed in Lest (Slovakia), which acts as the lead nation in this NATO Multinational Brigade; and the Paznic Tactical Air Detachment, which is currently deployed on NATO’s Enhanced Air Policing mission in Romania.
Minister Robles thanked them all for their work in various parts of the world, highlighting Spain’s commitment to the Euro-Atlantic Alliance. To conclude this follow-up meeting, Lieutenant General Agüero addressed the three contingent commanders and assured them that “much of the affection we receive abroad is down to the way you carry out your duties in the area of operations”.
