The Chief of the Defence welcomes his German counterpart on an official visit to Spain

• They discussed the various security and defence initiatives in which Spain and Germany are involved

The Chief of the Defence (JEMAD), Admiral General Teodoro E. López Calderón, has welcomed his German counterpart, General Carsten Breuer.

The day began in the Plaza de la Lealtad where, following the customary honours, both attended a ceremony in tribute to the fallen, during which they laid a laurel wreath at the memorial.

They then travelled to the Defence Staff Headquarters, where, after greeting the Spanish delegation and signing the guest book, they held a working meeting with the Chief of the Defence and other senior officers of the Defence Staff. At this meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest relating to security and defence.

NATO and the transatlantic partnership, the forthcoming Ankara Summit, the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East and the future of the UNIFIL mission were the main topics discussed.
