The Joint Cyberspace Command (JCC) took part in the ORUM project’s Awareness Days, organised by the Region of Murcia. Commander (Ret.) Enrique Pérez de Tena, an adviser to the JCC’s Office of Institutional Relations, gave an awareness-raising talk to those in attendance.

During his presentation, Pérez de Tena analysed the transition towards a fully hyperconnected era; for we are facing a shift in era, marked by phenomena such as the military use of satellite networks and threats on the Deep/Dark Web, which expose critical infrastructure and businesses to becoming direct targets or collateral damage of cyberattacks driven by international conflicts.

He emphasised the need to elevate cybersecurity to the highest levels of organisational management whilst simultaneously embedding it into day-to-day tactical operations. He highlighted the critical importance of continuous preparedness through advanced drills and exercises, promoting the creation of a ‘digital shield’ that guarantees the sovereignty and protection of an interconnected Spain. All of this, of course, must always place people at the centre.

ORUM is the new free public cybersecurity service launched by the Government of the Region of Murcia to help SMEs, the self-employed and entrepreneurs strengthen the protection of their digital environments. The initiative provides the business community with an analysis and monitoring platform capable of identifying vulnerabilities, detecting threats and assessing security risks, complemented by specialist advice and practical training tailored to the needs of each organisation.

The project aims to improve the digital resilience of businesses in Murcia against increasingly frequent threats, such as phishing, ransomware and unauthorised access, by facilitating access to cybersecurity tools and services that are usually only available to large companies. Thanks to its free-of-charge nature and personalised approach, ORUM enables businesses of any size to assess their level of risk exposure, implement preventive measures and make progress in protecting their digital assets.

Funded by the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and supported by European funds, ORUM forms part of the regional strategy for digital transformation and cybersecurity, with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness and digital trust of the regional economy.
