June 10, 2026

For the first time, the training included practical sessions in Zaragoza

The first Level 2 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) course delivered by Spanish military personnel to members of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) has concluded. Eight weeks of intensive training, six of which took place in Beirut and two at the 12th Ponton and Engineering Specialities Regiment in Zaragoza.

Over two months, the Lebanese military personnel have acquired the necessary skills to safely perform the duties associated with the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) specialism. An initial theoretical phase took place in Beirut, whilst for the second phase, the Lebanese military personnel travelled to Spain to complete their training with live explosives and ammunition.

At the facilities of the 12th Pontoneros and Engineer Specialities Regiment, over a two-week period, the participants carried out practical exercises relating to the handling, identification and deactivation of conventional munitions, applying the knowledge acquired under the supervision of the Spanish Mobile Training Team (MTT).

Now that they have completed the training provided by the Spanish military, the Lebanese personnel must pass the official examinations at the Regional School for Humanitarian Demining in Lebanon (RSHDL), located in Hammana. Upon passing these tests, they will be able to obtain the official certification enabling them to practise this speciality in the Republic of Lebanon.

The work of the Spanish Armed Forces in Lebanon continues.

The course forms part of the activities of the Military Technical Committee for Lebanon (MTC4L), a body established in March 2024 of which Spain is a founding member. Its main objective is to contribute to increasing the effectiveness and operational capacity of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF).
