The streets of Vigo city centre were the setting this afternoon for the Music Festival, presided over by the Chief of Defence, Admiral Teodoro Esteban López Calderón, accompanied by the Mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero. Also in attendance, amongst other military and civilian authorities, the Chief of the General Staff of the Army (JEME), General Amador Enseñat y Berea; the Chief of the General Staff of the Navy (AJEMA), Admiral Antonio Piñeiro; and the Chief of the General Staff of the Air Force (JEMA), Air Marshal Francisco Braco Carbó.
At 6.45 pm, the parade of military bands began, which later took part in the concert held in Praza Porta Do Sol. Participating in this event were the Royal Guard Music Unit, the Music Unit of the Manoeuvre Support Command Headquarters, the Legion’s Music Unit and Military Band, the Music Unit of the Naval Military School, the Music Unit of the Basic Air and Space Academy, the Guardia Civil Music Unit and the Galician Federation of Music Bands.
Hundreds of people gathered along the route taken by the various music units, as well as at the subsequent concert, applauding the performances.
Later, all the participating musical groups gathered at 7 pm in Praza Porta Do Sol, and the audience was treated to performances including ‘Cantigas y Agarimos’ by the Music Unit of the Manoeuvre Support Command Headquarters; ‘Ganando barlovento’ by the Military Naval Academy Band; ‘The Final Countdown’ performed by the Music Unit of the Basic Air and Space Academy. ‘El novio de la muerte’ performed by the Music Unit of the ‘Rey Alfonso XIII’ II Brigade of the Legion. ‘El Sitio de Zaragoza’ and ‘Rolandito’ performed by the Music Unit of the Guardia Civil.
The Galician Federation of Military Bands performed the Galician pasodoble ‘Gallego Puenteareas’ and the ‘Muñeira dos Pendellos’. The Royal Guard Music Unit performed ‘Relevo en palacio’ and ‘Guardia de Alabarderos’.
Subsequently, all the participating units entered the square to form a Mixed Music Unit with the march ‘Hesperia’. And, under the baton of Colonel Fernando Lizana, Director of the Royal Guard Music Unit, they performed several pieces in which the bagpipes took centre stage. The concert concluded with the National Anthem.
