Spanish special operations units are taking part in the multinational exercise ‘Trojan Footprint 26’

In Georgia and Romania
May 20, 2026

The Joint Special Operations Command is acting as the national coordinating authority for this year’s largest joint and combined special operations exercise in Europe

The Joint Special Operations Command (MCOE) leads the special operations forces of the Army and Navy — the Parachute Engineer Squadron (EZAPAC), the Naval Special Warfare Force (FGNE) and the Special Operations Command (MOE) — participating in the ‘Trojan Footprint 26’ exercise. This manoeuvre constitutes the largest joint-combined special operations exercise in Europe this year.

Spanish military personnel are strengthening their interoperability and cooperation on regional security matters in Georgia and Romania, alongside special operations forces from other allied nations. In a high-intensity multi-domain environment —led by the US Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR) and under the auspices of NATO’s Allied Special Operations Command (NATO SOFCOM) — more than 3,000 military personnel from 24 countries have gathered to train in operational activities aimed at strengthening the exchange of procedures and improving interoperability in a multinational environment.

Specifically, training activities are being carried out, including marksmanship, precision shooting, combat medical care, special procedures from helicopters and close-quarters combat (CQB). In addition, tactical exercises are being conducted in a degraded environment to demonstrate the ability to operate rapidly and effectively in a complex setting.

Spain’s participation in the ‘Trojan Footprint 26’ exercise highlights the Armed Forces’ commitment to joint and combined training, as well as to strengthening regional security cooperation with allied nations in the field of special operations.

‘Trojan Footprint 2026’

‘Trojan Footprint 2026’ (TFP26) is the main and largest exercise for special operations forces in the European theatre. This edition brings together approximately 1,000 US special forces personnel and 2,000 NATO allies and partner forces.

This joint exercise highlights the indispensable value that special forces bring to the Allied Joint Force, by promoting interoperability, forging lasting alliances and advancing collective defence. TFP26 maintains the ready and highly credible forces necessary to deter aggression and safeguard regional security. Spain’s participation demonstrates its deep commitment to defending the allies’ common interests, showcasing an unwavering and unified commitment to global stability.
