This training took place at the Air Force’s 2nd Tactical Wing and the Army’s 7th Brigade
A team of inspectors, comprising six Spanish military personnel from the Spanish Verification Unit (UVE), one German military officer, one Portuguese military officer and one US military officer, has carried out the VERIFEX I/26 verification exercise in Belgium, accompanied by an escort team made up of personnel from the Benelux Arms Control Agency (BACA).
This training took place in the Belgian towns of Florennes and Marche-en-Famenne, home to the Belgian Air Force’s 2nd Tactical Wing, where the CFE inspection was carried out; and the Belgian Army’s 7th Brigade, where the DV11 assessment was conducted.
During the exercise, the theoretical knowledge acquired by the inspectors from the multinational inspection, evaluation and escort teams regarding the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (FACE) and the Vienna Document (VD-11) was put into practice.
The inspectors had the opportunity to visit and inspect all equipment subject to and limited by FACE and DV11, as well as the facilities and activities carried out by these units, expressing their gratitude for the units’ involvement and preparation in carrying out the exercise.
This exercise, conducted in English with consecutive translation into Russian, serves to standardise operational criteria among OSCE countries and optimises the training of inspectors, escorts and interpreters.
All personnel and units involved in the exercise participated actively in both its preparation and execution, thereby demonstrating the standard of these units in light of current procedures. The training enables personnel to carry out a real, active inspection and/or evaluation by the Kingdom of Spain to countries under the treaties.
