The Commander of the Joint Special Operations Command (CMCOE), Major General Ángel R. Herrezuelo Pérez, has visited the headquarters and main special operations units of the Turkish Armed Forces in the city of Ankara. This visit aims to strengthen cooperation between the special operations forces of both countries.

During the visit, the Joint Special Operations Command (CMCOE) was able to gain first-hand insight into the missions, organisation and capabilities of Turkish special operations, as well as to identify potential opportunities for bilateral military cooperation between Spain and Turkey, to be implemented in the future within the field of special operations.

Among the facilities of the Turkish Special Operations Command visited by the Major General, the training and simulation area stands out, which includes a patrol-level training zone for carrying out simulated special operations missions using Virtual Reality, as well as the Air Special Operations Regiment, a unit equipped with both rotary-wing and fixed-wing assets.

Furthermore, the CMCOE was able to learn about the capabilities of the Turkish Army’s unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) brigade, as well as the factory of one of Turkey’s leading aerospace companies (Turkish Aerospace). These visits demonstrated Turkey’s high level of development, both in the military and industrial spheres.

This visit marked a first step towards strengthening bilateral relations between the special operations forces of both countries, a relationship that is intended to be enhanced in the future through further collaborative activities.
