The Joint Cyber Command has taken part in ‘The Wave’, one of Spain’s most important events in the field of technology and cyber security. Commander (R) Enrique Pérez de Tena, expert adviser to the Joint Cyber Command’s Office of Institutional Relations, gave a talk alongside Mateo Barrios, ICT director at the Zaragoza University Centre (CESTE) and an expert in cyber defence and military operations.

Their presentation focused on highlighting the importance of collaboration between the Joint Cyber Command and CESTE in providing lecturers and technical trainers for the Joint Cyber Command’s Military School of Cyber Operations, always as a complement to and in addition to the military instructors already available to the Command itself.

In a landscape of global hybrid threats, collaboration between cutting-edge technology centres and defence institutions is becoming critical. In their presentation, Pérez de Tena and Barrios analysed the Joint Cyber Command’s Military School of Cyber Operations’ successful model through the lens of the Research, Development and Innovation ecosystem. Drawing on their direct experience in training senior management and developing specialised programmes for the Ministry of Defence, they explored how knowledge transfer and technological innovation are the cornerstones for ensuring digital sovereignty and the resilience of critical national infrastructure.

The ‘Wave’ took place at the Zaragoza Conference Centre (from 14th  to 16th  April in its 2026 edition) and combines high-level conferences, the latest in emerging technologies and multimedia experiences, start-up fairs and cultural performances such as live music, visual displays and leisure areas to encourage networking. In addition, each year the event features a guest country to promote cross-border collaboration. In 2026, this was Japan.
