  •  NCO. Vicens, from the Joint Cyberspace Command ’s Institutional Relations Office, spoke at the round table discussion on future opportunities

The University of Málaga hosted the third edition of this event, which has established itself as a benchmark for raising the profile of and promoting women’s leadership in the technology and digital security sectors. Under the slogan ‘There are more and more of us’, the event was held in the auditorium of the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering at the University of Málaga (UMA).

In her speech, Sergeant Vicens outlined the JCC’s work in protecting cyberspace and the role of the Armed Forces in tackling the increasingly sophisticated and frequent threats arising in the digital sphere. For this reason, she emphasised the need to recognise that the digital space is neither a neutral nor a completely secure environment.

“We try to resolve crises before they arise,” stated Sergeant Vicens, referring to the preventive work carried out at the JCC to stay one step ahead of cyber incidents that could affect critical infrastructure or essential services.

Finally, they emphasised the importance of people in protecting cyberspace and highlighted the academic sector as a key source of talent for this task. In this regard, they referred to the Talent4Cyber initiative, a hackathon that has established itself as the major university event in cybersecurity and which, in 2025, saw the participation of almost 500 students from 42 universities across Spain.

The Andalusia Women Cyberleaders Forum was established with the aim of creating a network of leading women in technology and cybersecurity who, through a collaborative, shared project serving as a benchmark for the sector, would act as influential figures within Andalusian society. Thus, the 2026 edition has brought together experts, institutions and future professionals with a clear objective: to close the gender gap and boost the presence of women in decision-making roles within the STEAM sector.

To achieve this objective, it aims to challenge current stereotypes in the tech world, foster networking and create a network of influential women with decision-making capabilities. Women who propose solutions to the needs of the cybersecurity sector in the areas of training, talent and professional visibility.

By participating in events such as the Andalusia Women Cyber Leaders Forum, the JCC is committed to promoting access to the cyber world – and, more specifically, to cyber defence – for all members of society, regardless of gender.
