Students from the 47th Course for Defense Attachés and Counselors visited the facilities of the Joint Cyberspace Command with the aim of raising awareness and explaining, within the cyber domain, the various risks associated with the posts they will take up in the attaché offices to which they will be assigned.
They were received by the commander of the Force for Operations in Cyberspace (FOCE), Major General Pablo Gómez Lera, who emphasized the importance of understanding the current situation in order to address existing threats in cyberspace and implement capabilities for protection, intelligence, and active defense.
Following his speech, Senior Warrant Officer Juan Carlos Prada gave an overview of the MCCE: when it was established, its mission in relation to the Armed Forces, critical infrastructure and civil society, how it is organised, its personnel, and its future prospects in terms of growth.
In addition, FOCE staff conducted a practical exercise in which they demonstrated to attendees the vulnerability to which any individual, company or organisation is exposed via any digital device. A real-time simulation of a cyberattack on a fictional factory was carried out, and members of the National Defence Course were able to witness the vulnerability of individuals and businesses to existing cyber threats.
Finally, they attended a presentation by the intelligence unit entitled ‘Risks, Threats and Vulnerabilities’, during which they were made aware of the importance of protecting themselves against existing cyber threats.
