The Command’s representative took part in the panel “Challenges in the defence of Cyberspace”
The Joint Cyberspace Command took part in the 1st Cultural Week of the School of Command, Control and Telecommunications Techniques (EMACOT, Spanish acronym) of the Air and Space Force, hosted at Cuatro Vientos Air Base in Madrid. Specifically, it participated in the panel “Challenges in the defence of Cyberspace”, together with the Air and Space Force Advanced Technical Support Centre and the National Cryptologic Centre .
In his presentation, the Joint Cyberspace Command representative highlighted the Command’s efforts to counter cyber threats. He underlined the crucial role of artificial intelligence in defence, intelligence collection and active cyber defence. Above all, he stressed the key role played by people.
He also outlined the Joint Cyberspace Command growth plans until 2030, which are focused on strengthening its operational capability. He explained that the strategy involves prioritising the human component, “which is the most important element for the Command”. To this end, the number of personnel will triple to 1,500, comprising 1,300 military personnel from the three services and 200 highly specialised civilian experts.
He further noted that the Joint Cyberspace Command will position itself at the technological forefront through the development of the Cyberspace Combat System, the Defence Staff Artificial Intelligence Reference Centre, the 5G Laboratory and the Cyber Range simulation platform.
During their respective turns, the Air and Space Force Advanced Technical Support representative referred to the challenges faced by the Air and Space Force in cyberspace, especially in the satellite field, while the National Cryptologic Centre representative referred to the strategy that they are following to allocate public resources to cybersecurity, as well as the legislative reforms that have been implemented in the sector, with particular reference to the transposition of the European NIS 2 Directive.
