The Joint Cyber Command (MCCE) has once again led the execution and planning of ‘Cyber Bastion’ (CB25), a national cyber defense exercise aimed at improving the response capacity to cyber incidents in military operations.
In this biennial exercise, the only one of its kind organized by the MCCE, the cyber security operations centers (COS in Spanish) of the three branches of the Armed Forces participated, under the centralized coordination of the Command.
The direction and coordination of the response to the cyber incidents in ‘Cyber Bastion 25’ is carried out from the Cyber Operations Center (CYOC), which allows for joint, effective action aligned with established operational procedures; respecting the principle of centralized command and decentralized execution.
The objective of ‘Cyber Bastion’ in its 2025 edition was to take a further step in increasing the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces in cyberspace, by improving preparedness, standardizing procedures, and enhancing interoperability in the face of potential cyberattacks.
To this end, the exercise allowed for the validation of operational capabilities, the integration of command and control structures, the evaluation of cyber incident management procedures, and the strengthening of training in the legal aspects associated with this field.
‘Cyber Bastion 25’ was conducted concurrently with the NATO international exercise ‘Cyber Coalition’. Through the sharing of scenarios and technical challenges, it enabled simultaneous execution, reinforcing interoperability and cooperation with allied countries in the field of cyber defense, while maintaining independent management of national incidents at all times.
