A member of the Spanish Verification Unit (UVE) attended as a guest at a VERIFEX exercise in Romania, led by the US Verification Agency. He participated alongside seven other representatives from the US Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).
The exercise took place in Babadag and Borcea, locations of the 307 Marine Infantry Regiment and the 86 Air Base, respectively.
The multinational inspection and evaluation team, as well as the Romanian escort team, applied in practice the theoretical knowledge related to inspections under the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) and evaluations under the Vienna Document 2011 (VD11).
During the activity, the inspectors and evaluators were able to visit the facilities and verify the equipment subject to the limitations established by both international treaties, as well as interact with the personnel of both military bases.
The active participation of the 307 Marine Infantry Regiment and the 86 Air Base stands out, which has made it possible to assess the level of preparedness of both units, review and unify the procedures currently in force in the event of an inspection and/or evaluation by another country in accordance with the terms established in the aforementioned treaties, both of which apply in Romania.
