Madrid hosted the 8th edition of the Ibero-American Cyber Defense Forum (FIC in Spanish), coinciding with the STIC (Spanish acronym) Conference organized at Kinépolis (Pozuelo de Alarcón) by the National Cryptology Center (CCN in Spanish) and the Joint Cyber Command (MCCE in Spanish). Major General Gómez Lera chaired the first face-to-face meeting of the Forum.
The member countries reiterated their commitment to cooperation and information exchange in the field of cybersecurity. Among other topics discussed were coordination in the service of the MISP (Malware Information Sharing Platform) for FIC members and the exchange of training between countries.
The Forum is an initiative that began in 2016 in Madrid during a meeting of cyber defense delegations from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Spain. Uruguay, Guatemala, Portugal, and the Dominican Republic subsequently joined. The objective is to promote mutual support in staff training, encourage participation in conferences and exercises, and establish support procedures for research, development, and innovation.
Following the conclusion of this new iteration of the FIC, the next meeting will address the handover of leadership to another country that volunteers, as the aim is for all countries to lead the forum on a rotating and cyclical basis.
