The Spanish Verification Unit (UVE) participated in the VERIFEX exercise carried out at the Naval Air Wing ‘Graf Zeppelin’ in Nordholz, Germany, to verify compliance with the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) and the Vienna Document (VD11).
The inspectors had the opportunity to visit and check all the equipment subject to restrictions at FACE and DV11. This enabled them to inspect the P-3C ORION anti-submarine aircraft and the Dornier 228 LM aircraft, which are used to measure pollution levels in the Baltic Sea and North Sea areas.
During the exercise, the theoretical knowledge acquired by the inspectors of the multinational inspection and evaluation, observation, and escort teams was put into practice. The verifiers expressed their gratitude for the involvement of the units in carrying out the activity.
In this case, the assessment was led by Italy, with the participation of a representative from the Portuguese Verification Agency. This practice serves to standardise criteria for action among NATO countries and optimise the training of inspectors and escorts.
