The Joint Cyberspace Command (MCCE) has been awarded the 2025 Conde de Latores Prize for Social Work, in recognition of its commitment and dedication to defending the digital sphere and protecting national interests against threats arising in cyberspace.
This distinction, awarded by the Royal Corps of Nobility of the Principality of Asturias, was received by the Commander of the Command, Vice Admiral Javier Roca, at a ceremony held in Oviedo.
In his acceptance speech, he highlighted the importance of the human factor in the fight against cyber threats. “Behind the technology and behind every system there are committed people with values and a spirit of service who every day put their knowledge and effort at the service of Spain and its citizens. Defending cyberspace is, ultimately, defending the freedom and future of us all,” he said.
In its decision, the award jury highlighted that the MCCE “performs a discreet but essential task in Spain's security and defense, which has consolidated it as a fundamental pillar of modern defense, contributing decisively to the well-being, progress, and confidence of society as a whole.”
The 2025 Conde de Latores Award for Social Work is one of four annual awards given by this corporation to people and institutions that have distinguished themselves through their social work, entrepreneurial spirit, contribution to the economy, or support for culture.
In previous years, this award has been given to institutions such as the Cuerpo Nacional de Policía, the Guardia Civil, the European Space Agency (ESA), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), the Spanish Federation of Food Banks, and the Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME), among others.
