The C-IED Centre of Excellence delivers the ‘C-IED Staff Officers Course

• Twenty students of eight different nationalities have participated

The Centre of Excellence Against Improvised Explosive Devices has delivered the third edition of the C-IED Staff Officers Course in 2025.

Inaugurated by the Director of C-IED COE, Colonel Javier Sanz Maldonado, the course brought together 20 students of eight nationalities (Belgium, Spain, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, and Turkey) at its facilities in Hoyo de Manzanares, Madrid.

The objective of the CSOC is to provide personnel assigned to General Staffs, Headquarters or other operational units with the necessary training to advise the command leading the C-IED effort at both tactical and operational levels.

The classes have been taught by staff assigned to the centre and have focused mainly on understanding the threat, doctrine on the subject, and operational planning.

After the theoretical sessions they received during the first two days of the course, the students carried out various group exercises based on a fictional scenario. These gave them the opportunity to apply what they had learnt, debate, share experiences and exchange knowledge.
