The MCCE incorporates 54 new ‘Grey Berets’

August 19, 2025

The influx of the Spanish Armed Forces personnel into the MCCE continues in order to expand its human capital

The Spanish Joint Cyberspace Command (‘Mando Conjunto del Ciberespacio’ o MCCE in Spanish) has incorporated 54 new grey berets, 50 of whom belong to the Joint Cyberspace Command Staff (EMMCCE in Spanish) and 4 to the Army and Navy, who have completed their military training at academies and schools.

More concretely, there are seven lieutenants, five of whom come from the Army’s Polytechnic Engineers Corps and two holding the Cyberspace specialisation from the Air and Space Force. The latter have joined the command directly from the Air Force General Academy of San Javier, after receiving their commissions.

Regarding the non-commissioned officers, 43 sergeants have joined the unit. In particular, from those of the Spanish Army are 16 specialised in Communications and 7 in IT. From the Navy, 10 hold the specialisation in Communications and Information Systems. As for the Air and Space Force personnel, 10 have specialised in Information Systems, Communications and Cyber Defence. Within the Troops and Marine Corps, there are 4 marines specialising in Operations and Systems.

During the first three weeks, MCCE-related information sessions have been organised so that the new cyberspace guardians can gain insights into the Command. In other words, they are trained in order to know who we are, what we do, what we are committed to and, above all, what our mission is.

The aim is for them to acquire the prior knowledge that will enable them to learn what they will face in the future. Thus, in September, the Basic Cyberspace Operations Course (CBECO in Spanish) begins.

This training will also allow newcomers and those already assigned to the Command to get to know each other. In addition, they can learn further about the MCCE so that each of them can find the most suitable position in which to carry out their work.

Last but not least, it is an opportunity for military personnel already assigned to the Command (either at the EMAD facilities (Spain’s Defence Staff) or at the Torrejón Air Force Base) to further understand other MCCE areas that they are unfamiliar with, especially the latest incorporations from other units, as the conferences are being broadcast live via I3D on Skype.
