During the commemorative event, a variety of activities and lectures were conducted, highlighting the importance of this unit in the present and future of the Armed Forces.
Joint Cyberspace Command (MCCE, in Spanish) has reached its fifth anniversary with a commemorative event, presided over by its Commander (CMCCE), Javie Roca Rivero, at Retamares Base; the event underscored the crucial role of this unit in both present and future of the Spanish Armed Forces.
During the act, a series of activities took place, such as cyber and sport competitions, as well as some lectures on the MCCE’s impact on both the Armed Forces and the civilian domain.
Among the notable speakers, Warrant Officer Alejandro Ponlla; Mr. Benito García Fernández (ISDEFE), on behalf of Major General Carlos Enrique López de Medina, former Commander of MCCD; Major General Rafael García Hernández, first Commander of the MCCE; and the current CMCCE, Javier Roca.
Over these past five years, Retamares Base has expanded in terms of personnel and infrastructure. The unit now comprises over 500 personnel, both military and civilian. Furthermore, within the next two years, a new building is expected to be inaugurated to house the Military School of Cyber Operations, along with two additional facilities allowing to enhance MCCE’s operational capabilities.
The Joint Cyberspace Command was established on June 26th, 2020, with the merge of the Joint Command for Information and Communication Systems of the Armed Forces (JCISFAS) and the former Joint Cyber Defence Command, with the aim of ensuring readiness in this fifth domain of military operations.
