The Spanish Verification Unit (UVE) has moved to the Retamares Base in Pozuelo de Alarcón, after 26 years of service at the Central Defence Academy (ACD) barracks.
On this occasion, a farewell ceremony was held in the parade ground of the aforementioned barracks, which was presided over by the Lieutenant General of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JEMACON) Mr. José Antonio Herrera Llamas. Also in attendance were the director of the Central Defence Academy, accompanied by the director of the Defence University Centre, the deputy director, the directors of the schools, the head of the cadet battalion and other heads of units located at the barracks.
It was an emotional ceremony, in which the transfer order of the Unit was read out and all the members of the UVE thanked the ACD for its welcome, support, collaboration and affection.
During the ceremony, Colonel Carlos Javier Armada Vázquez handed over the keys of the unit to the Director General of the ACD, Brigadier General Alejandro Zamanillo Sainz, marking the end of a significant stage.
During his speech, the General Director of the ACD highlighted the good relationship and support given to the UVE over the years. For his part, JEMACON underlined the cohesion and the good work of the UVE, as well as the planning and perfect execution of the transfer.
Following the ceremony, the occasion was used to bid farewell to UVE staff who have left the unit in the first half of 2025, thanking them for their dedication and commitment during their time of service.
The Spanish Verification Unit, which over the years has played a key role in compliance with the arms control treaties signed, will continue its important work at its new base, contributing to Spain's prestige and to international peace, security and stability.
