The Government of Aragon has celebrated the Second Aragon SME Week, an initiative promoted by the Regional Government of Aragon, which has hosted nearly fifty events aimed at promoting technological development and strengthening the region's business fabric.

Within the framework of this programme, in which the Aerospace Cluster of Aragon (AERA) has played a leading role, leading the organisation of several activities, including the Round Table ‘Business Meeting Dual Technologies: Towards a dual industry ready’, held during the closing day, in which the MCCE participated.

During the session, the opportunities that the current panorama presents to the Aragonese industry in the field of dual technologies were analysed. This panorama is particularly marked by the international context that seeks to reinforce defence capabilities and is encouraging greater investment in sectors linked to defence and national security.

Special attention was devoted to the cyberspace field, clearly identified as a fertile ground for research, development and technological innovation, due to its cross-cutting nature and its multiple applications in both civil and military domains.

The MCCE was represented by the Head of Studies of the Military School of Cyber Operations, Lieutenant Colonel Enrique Castañeda de Benito, who presented the role of the MCCE in the articulation of the national cybersecurity and defence ecosystem, as well as its work in coordinating activities with civilian and private actors.

In his speech, Lieutenant Colonel Castañeda underlined the opportunities for public-private collaboration arising from the development of the Cyberspace Combat System (SCOMCE), a strategic project for the MCCE. He stressed that its success will depend to a large extent on the active participation of industry and private companies in the technological developments that will enhance the operational capabilities to be employed by the Armed Forces in Cyberspace.

Special mention was also made of the importance of the human factor and the comprehensive training required to develop the necessary military capabilities. Training which, in addition to being critical for the Armed Forces, is also highly valued and demanded by industry and civilian administrations, and which in many cases has to be provided by personnel from the civilian sphere, as they have the most specialised technical knowledge.

In this regard, the participation of an Aragonese SME, Centro de Estudios Superiores y Técnicos de Empresa (CESTE), in the implementation of the training given at the Escuela Militar de Ciberoperaciones (EMCO), a military training centre within the MCCE, was highlighted as a success story.
