Students received a comprehensive briefing on the role of the Operations Command (MOPS in Spanish), which includes the planning of all operations, the conduct of national missions, and the monitoring of multinational deployments
The Deputy for Operations at the Operations Command (MOPS), Major General Martín Pascual, hosted a delegation from the Malaysian Armed Forces Defence College (MAFDC) at Retamares Base, led by its Commandant, First Admiral HJ Shahriman Bin HJ Mahmud.
The visit provided the students with the opportunity to gain insight into the policies, functions, and capabilities of the Spanish Armed Forces, as well as other institutions involved in Spain’s defence and security framework. To this end, they shared perspectives, experiences, and common challenges with various units from the Army, Navy, and Guardia Civil.
During the visit, MAFDC students and faculty were given a detailed overview of MOPS’ responsibilities, which include the full spectrum of operational planning, command of national missions and oversight of multinational operations.
This allowed them to gain an understanding of the significant contribution made by the Spanish Armed Forces to international missions under the aegis of the United Nations, European Union, and NATO, as well as their operational roles within national territory—particularly in Presence, Surveillance, and Deterrence Operations.
