The Centre of Excellence against Improvised Explosive Devices (C-IED CoE) has organised and conducted a new edition of the Weapons Intelligence Team (WIT) course. This time it was held at the Hungarian Defence Forces NCO Academy in the Hungarian city of Szentendre.
This outsourced location is in line with the Centre's commitment to the NATO-sponsored WIT training programme, which is included in the 2024 Work Programme approved by the NATO Steering Committee.
The course brought together 22 students of 12 NATO nationalities and was taught by both CoE staff and external lecturers.
Over three weeks, the course has provided attendees with Level 1 (tactical level) IED incident technical operational training, including forensics, photography, tactical terrorist design, UAS swarm exploitation, Document and Media Exploitation (DOMEX) basics, and post-explosion collection and analysis.
The course also included a comprehensive practical phase, through which the instructors reinforced the development of the skills needed by a future WIT operator.
For participating nations, this type of course provides an excellent opportunity to understand the NATO exploitation process and to train their WIT operators, enhancing the development of their national capabilities.
The C-IED CoE continues to support NATO Allies and partners in this process, in line with NATO's objectives.
