- As part of the ‘Pacific Skies 24’ deployment, the German, French and Spanish Air Forces have performed their most demanding flight.
After nine days of intense activity at Eielson Air Base, where the ‘Arctic Defender’ exercise was carried out, the air forces participating in ‘Pacific Skies 24’ have made their third jump, this time to Chitose, Japan.
This demanding transfer involved a journey of more than 5,500 km, eight hours of flight time in the A400Ms and seven and a half hours in the Eurofighters, and four in-flight refuelling per fighter and attack aircraft.
Pacific Skies' aircraft have flown in international airspace and with flight plans authorised by the relevant international civilian agencies.
This is the first time that Spanish Air and Space Army aircraft have landed on Japanese soil, and the Japanese Air Self-Defence Force personnel have received the Spanish personnel with honours.
Once in Japanese airspace, aircraft from the German Luftwaffe and the Spanish Air and Space Army carried out tactical training with four F-15s belonging to the 2nd Air Wing of the Japanese Air Self-Defence Force.
This activity has been a new opportunity for the nations participating in the ‘Pacific Skies 24’ to strengthen ties with allied countries, thus improving their interoperability and their vision of how to operate in complex scenarios in air operations.
