- The German 'Open Skies' Airbus 319 OH aircraft has been used.
In accordance with the Open Skies Treaty (OSCT), a team composed of nineteen representatives of the German and French Verification Unit conducted a training observation flight over Spain, with guests from Portugal and Italy. All operations were conducted from the Getafe Air Base and the German Airbus 319 certified aircraft was used.
Prior to the execution of the flight, both the aircraft and the observation sensors were inspected by representatives of the Spanish Verification Unit. During the stay at the Air Base, the aircraft was visited by representatives of the German and French Embassies.
Representatives from CLAEX (Logistic Centre for Armament and Experimentation) and CINTAER (Aerospace Targeting and Intelligence Centre) of the Spanish Air and Space Force participated in the pre-flight inspection. The distance flown was 2,300 km, mainly over the east of the country.
For the observation flight, the new digital sensor of the German aircraft was used and about 300 frames were obtained. Further processing of the resulting images was carried out in Getafe.
The Open Skies Treaty is part of the commitments made by the States Parties to the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe to promote greater openness and transparency in their military activities, and to contribute to the development and strengthening of peace, stability and security through the creation of an Open Skies regime for aerial observation. This treaty allows a State Party to observe any part of the territory of another State Party and to take aerial photographs with a maximum resolution of 30 cm.
