Operations Command announces 20th Anniversary Art Awards

The deadline for the submission of applications in the mode and manner specific to each category opens on 27 May and closes on 15 June 2024.

By resolution of the Chief of Defence, Admiral Teodoro Esteban López Calderón, the 20th Anniversary Awards of the MOPS (Operations Command) have been announced. The aim of this artistic and literary event is to promote and disseminate the activities carried out by this joint body of the Spanish Defence.

Thus, The ‘MOPS’ 20th Anniversary Awards are divided into three main categories: painting, which is divided into two, adults and children (up to 16 years old inclusive); image and photography, in which two different prizes are awarded, the best photograph and the best photograph of human interest; and, finally, literary creation, which, like painting, will be awarded to an adult author and another, a minor, with the aforementioned age range.

The MOPS 20th Anniversary Awards are open to individuals and public or private institutions of any nationality. The submission of applications in the specific manner and form to each category opens on 27 May and closes on 15 June 2024.

Works in the disciplines of Image and Literary Creation will be sent by e-mail to the following MOPS SETEC address: MOPS_XX_ANIVERSARIO@mde.es.

The originals of the Painting category should be sent to the following address by ordinary mail with the corresponding acknowledgement of receipt:

In the Painting section, the works must be original and unpublished and must reflect the activities of the Armed Forces in the field of operations. The motifs may be historical or topical. Any technique and support is accepted, although with size limitations. The works will have a minimum size of 50x65 cm for the adult category and DIN A4 size for the children's category. In neither of the two subcategories may the size exceed 160x115 cm.

The works submitted in the Image and Photography category must reflect the work carried out by the Armed Forces in their various operations both at home and abroad. Photographs will be submitted in JPG format with a minimum resolution of 300 pixels per inch (ppi), a minimum size of 30 cm by 40 cm and a minimum quality of 3.5 Mb in a digital folder named with the title indicated on the entry form and without any information that could identify the entrant.

Along with the work submitted, another folder called ‘Data’ will be included, followed by the title of the work, and inside it will include a copy of the registration form previously submitted to participate in the prizes and, in the case of minors, the details of their parents/guardians. Photographs resulting from editing or manipulation, either by adding or deleting elements originally captured, will not be accepted.

As regards the literary category, the work to be submitted must be in the form of a short story in prose. The plot of the written piece must be related to the operations of the Armed Forces in both the past and the present.

The works must be submitted in computer support (PDF format) with a minimum length of 5 and a maximum of 30 pages DIN A4 size, written in Arial 12 font format with 1 ½ line spacing and bottom, top and side margins of 2.54 centimeters.

In order to guarantee anonymity, they must be sent in a digital folder that will be named with the title indicated on the entry form and without any information that could identify the entrant.
