  • They have witnessed the development of the Experimental Brigade (BRIEX 2035) based in this Unit.

The Chief of Defence (JEMAD), Admiral Teodoro E. Lopez Calderon and his Portuguese counterpart, General Jose Nunes da Fonseca have visited the Legion Brigade (BRILEG) in Viator. The purpose of this working day was to learn about the development of the Experimental Brigade (BRIEX 2035).

Upon arrival at the base they were welcomed by General Jose Agustin Carreras Postigo, General of the Brigade of the Legion (BRILEG). The visit began with a ceremony of statutory honours, performed by an honours company and with the presence of the National Ensign of the 3rd Tercio. The Portuguese and Spanish national anthems were played during the ceremony.

This was followed by a presentation of the Unit to the Spanish and Portuguese Chiefs of Defence by the Commanding General of the Legion Brigade. They were informed of the progress made in the preparation of this experimental brigade, which represents the materialisation of the Army's adaptation to the new challenges of the operational environment with a horizon of 2035.

BRIEX 2025 is part of the Army's Force 35 project, which aims to modernise its capabilities and structures in an increasingly technological environment. In fact, the main defining feature of this experimental brigade is that it will be based on technology that will enable it to have greater combat power with fewer personnel.

They then travelled to the 'Alvarez de Sotomayor' manoeuvring and firing range, where they witnessed the development of an exercise in the Urban Combat Polygon. They also visited the Combat Group Tactical Command Post.
