The Chief of Defence closes the National Defence Courses

The Chief of Defence (JEMAD), Admiral General Teodoro Esteban López Calderón, today gave the final lecture of the XLIX Course on National Defence and the LX Monographic Course on National Defence, which were held at the Centro Superior de Estudios de la Defensa Nacional (CESEDEN).
The JEMAD began his speech by presenting his vision of the current geostrategic scenario and its associated complexity, briefly reviewing what is happening in the world, first globally and then in the areas of greatest interest to Spain.
He then analysed how this scenario is determining the transformation of the most important security and defence organisations to which Spain belongs, such as NATO and the EU. He concluded by explaining his ideas on how the Spanish Armed Forces should evolve in order to continue fulfilling their missions in this new environment.
After this final lesson, a debate was opened in which the students were able to put their questions to the JEMAD and a colloquium was established.
Afterwards, and after the rest of the students from the other two National Defence courses taught at CESEDEN during the year 2023 joined the event, the closing ceremony took place. 138 civilian and military students took part in these four courses.
