A ceremony to pay tribute to the Constitution on the occasion of its XLV anniversary. A solemn flag hoisting at the Senate, at the Spanish Navy Square.
The Chief of Defence (JEMAD), Admiral General Teodoro Esteban López Calderón, at the solemn flag hoisting ceremony with the Congress President, Francina Armengol Socias, and the Senate President, Pedro Rollán Ojeda, who co-chaired the event. The ceremony was also attended, among other civilian and military authorities, a commission of Deputies, a commission of Senators, the Spanish Army Chief, the Navy Chief, the Air and Space Chief and the Guardia Civil's Director General.
With this act, the Armed Forces pay tribute and express their recognition to the Constitution. On this occasion, the Army was in charge of the flag hoisting, organised by the Join Defence Headquarters.
The Combined Honours Company was made up by four Command Sections, the Honour Squadron and the Music Band of the 'Inmemorial del Rey’ No. 1 Regiment of the Spanish Army.
The sequence on the events was as follows:
· Arrival of the JEMAD at the Spanish Navy Square. He was received by an Army officer.
· The captain of the Combined Company reported to the CHOD.
· Arrival of the Congress President and the Senate President. They were received by the CHOD.
· They were honoured and they inspected the Force.
· Hoisting of the National Flag.
· Military Parade.
At the end of the parade, the Congress of Deputies' President, the Senate's President and the CHOD greeted the civilian and military authorities.
The hoisting of the flag at the Colón square takes place every month on a regular basis. It is also held four times a year on an extraordinary occasion, known as a "solemn hoisting". The first of these four solemn hoisting ceremonies is on 15 May, on San Isidro festivity. The second is on 19 June, the anniversary of the proclamation of the Spanish King, which is headed by the President of the General Council of the Judicial Power. The third is on 12 July, the anniversary of the Constitutional Court, which is headed by the president of the Constitutional Court. The last of the year is held on 6 December, the day of the Spanish Constitution, which is co-chaired by the presidents of the Congress and the Senate.
