Seville hosted the two-day meeting of the European Military Committee (EUMC). A working meeting in which the Chiefs of Defence Staff of the EU members in attendance, chaired by General Robert Brieger, discussed, among other issues, the support that the European Union is providing to Ukraine following Russia's invasion. This support is both in terms of sending material and in terms of training Ukrainian military personnel.
The EU's Strategic Compass was another of the issues discussed, with a view to its implementation in 2025 and plans for the short and medium term.
The members of the Committee also discussed the military missions that the European Union has deployed in Africa, especially in the Sahel and their continuation.
The EU Military Committee meets every six months at the level of the Chief of Defence Staff. These meetings are usually held in Brussels, but on this occasion, coinciding with the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council, the meeting for the second half of the year was held in Seville on 17 and 18 October.
