The Chief of Defence Staff , Admiral General Teodoro E. López Calderón has travelled to Australia to participate in a working session with his Australian counterpart, General Angus Campell.
Upon his arrival to Canberra, the CHOD was received with the traditional Australian Aboriginal welcome at the Australian Force Defence Headquarters.
In addition to his Australian counterpart, Admiral General López Calderón met with the Chief of the Australian Navy, Vice Admiral Mark Hammond. They discussed the geostrategic environment, cyber defence and other issues of interest to both countries.
During his stay, the JEMAD awarded the Grand Cross of Naval Merit to retired Vice Admiral Michael Noonan, former Chief of Staff of the Australian Navy.
Admiral General López Calderón also participated in one of the "Last Post" ceremonies at the Memorial War in Canberra, which honours the fallen in the conflicts in which Australia has been involved. The CHOD laid one of the wreaths accompanied by Admiral David Johnston, Australia's second Chief of Defence Staff. A representative of the Japanese Navy, led by Admiral Hiroshi Egawa, also attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by the Governor General of Australia.
