Solemn hoisting of the flag in the XLIII anniversary of the establishment of the Constitutional Court of Spain

This morning Colón Square in Madrid has hosted the Solemn Hoisting of the Flag held on the occasion of the anniversary of the establishment of the Constitutional Court of Spain.

The ceremony was presided by the President of the Constitutional Court of Spain, Cándido Conde-Pumpido Tourón, accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff of the Spanish Air and Space Forces, Air Chief Marshal Javier Salto Martínez-Avial, and personnel of the Army, the Navy, the Air and Space Forces and the Civil Guard, together with the judges, senior government officials and other staff of the Constitutional Court.

The Joint Honours Company was formed by four sections. The Command, the Gastador Squadron and the Band and Music Unit of the General Air Command of the Air and Space Forces.

The Sections, composed by 27 members each, belong to the Regiment 'Inmemorial del Rey' nº 1 of the Army, to the Headquarters of the Army, to the Honours Squadron of the Security Group of the Air and Space Forces, and to the Reserve and Security Group nº1 of the Civil Guard.

The flag-raising ceremony in Colón Square is held regularly every third Wednesday of each month. In addition, on four occasions along the year, it takes place as an extraordinary act called ‘solemn hoisting of the flag’. The first of these four hoisting ceremonies is held on May 15, coinciding with the festivity of the Patron Saint of Madrid, San Isidro, and to which the Major of Madrid attends. The second takes place on June 19, which is the anniversary of the proclamation of H.M. the King, and is co-chaired by the President of the General Council of the Judiciary and the Supreme Court. The third is celebrated on July 12, a day on which the Constitutional Court starts operating, and is co-chaired by its President. On December 6, Spanish Constitution Day, the last hoisting of the flag is held, co-chaired by the presidents of the Congress and Senate.
