Visit of the Chief of Defence Staff and his Portuguese counterpart to the Military School of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV's)

• This is the first working meeting of the two Chiefs of Staff after the inauguration of Portuguese General Jose Nunes da Fonseca.

The Chief of Defence Admiral General Teodoro Esteban López Calderón held today his first working meeting with his Portuguese counterpart, General José Nunes da Fonseca, who took office on March 1st.

This working meeting was held in Salamanca, at the Matacán Air Base, where both Chiefs of Defence Staff visited the Military School of Unmanned Aerial Systems (EMUAS) of the Spanish Air and Space Force.

The EMUAS is the military educational center of reference for the training of operators of remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) of all the Armed Forces. It is integrated in the Matacán School Group, at the Matacán Air Base.

Admiral General López Calderón and General Nunes da Fonseca were able to see first hand the RPAS simulators and the RPAS flight practice area. They have seen how these unmanned aerial systems work in an exhibition offered by the personnel of the School.

Afterwards, both had a working meeting whose main objective was to further strengthen bilateral relations and continue with the cooperation initiatives that already exist between the Armed Forces of Spain and Portugal.

Before leaving, General Nunes da Fonseca signed the book of honor of the Group of Schools of Matacán.
