  • Among the courses and events developed by the Center there is a Lessons Learned Workshop (LLWS)

The Centre of Excellence against Improvised Explosive Devices (C-IED CoE) has gathered 26 experts from 12 nationalities for three days at its biennial lessons learned workshop (LLWS) at its facilities in Hoyo de Manzanares.

Inaugurated by Colonel Javier Corbacho Margallo, the workshop aimed to contribute to NATO's lessons learned process. It also aims to increase awareness of the missions that different nations/agencies carry out in countries under IED threat in order to facilitate and strengthen interaction in the international C-IED community.

The workshop was structured in four panels that dealt with the evolution of the C-IED concept, technical exploitation in support of network attack, initiatives and trends in education and training, and research and development in C-IED. The panels were developed through lectures given by experts in the field and a subsequent discussion and exchange of ideas.

The workshop lasted three days and the attendees highlighted the usefulness of the lessons identified. A firm commitment has been made to share the results of the workshop with the entire C-IED community.

This workshop has been organised within the framework of the strong commitment that the C-IED COE maintains with the NATO lessons-learned community, in accordance with NATO doctrine and policy. In addition to organising this workshop, this commitment is demonstrated by the close collaboration with the NATO Joint Analysis Centre and the NATO lessons-learned community in education and training. Furthermore, the C-IED COE contributes to and supports the development of new NATO lessons-learned tools such as the NATO Observation Collection and Analysis tool and the new NATO LL toolset.
