The Centre of Excellence Counter Improvised Explosive Devices (C-IED CoE) has held a new edition of the C-IED Staff Officers Course at its facilities in Hoyo de Manzanares, Madrid.
Opened by the Colonel Director of the C-IED CoE, Javier Corbacho Margallo, the course brought together 24 students of 12 nationalities from the different armies of the Atlantic Alliance.
The aim of the course is to provide personnel assigned to General Staffs, Headquarters or other operational units with the required training to advise the command leading the C-IED effort at both the tactical and operational levels. The classes were given entirely by personnel assigned to the centre and focused mainly on knowledge of the threat, doctrine and operational planning at both the theoretical and practical levels, with various exercises carried out in a fictitious scenario where the students had the opportunity to debate, share experiences and exchange knowledge.
CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE COUNTER IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICES
The Centre of Excellence Counter Improvised Explosive Devices (C-IED CoE) is one of the 28 NATO Accredited Centres of Excellence, and is located in the town of Hoyo de Manzanares, Madrid. In addition to its accreditation as a CoE, it meets the quality standards (QA-Quality Assurance) required and certified by NATO's Allied Command Transformation (ACT) to be considered a NATO Education and Training Facility.
Among its missions is to provide support to NATO, NATO partners and the International Community by developing and conducting various training and specialisation courses in the fight against IED Systems, thus contributing to increase the security of deployed troops, reducing or eliminating the IED threat, especially from terrorist and insurgent networks.
The C-IED CoE was offered by Spain to NATO as part of its network of Centres of Excellence and accredited by the Alliance in November 2010..
