The Chief of Defence Staff (JEMAD) imparts the final lesson in National Defence Courses

  • The Admiral gave a lecture on the adaptation of the Armed Forces to the current strategic environment

The Chief of Defence Staff (JEMAD), Admiral General Teodoro López Calderón, imparted the final lecture of the XLVII National Defence Course and the LIX Monographic Course on National Defence conducted at the Centro Superior de Estudios de la Defensa Nacional (CESEDEN).

The JEMAD began his lecture by explaining some of the key issues of the global and regional strategic situation and then continued by explaining how NATO and the European Union, as well as the Armed Forces themselves, are adapting to this new environment. After the lecture, a debate was held in which the students were able to submit questions to the Admiral.

Afterwards, the JEMAD accompanied the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, in the closing ceremony of the four National Defence Courses taught at the CESEDEN during 2022, which have been attended by a total of 134 civilian and military students.

During the ceremony, Juan Velarde, one of the most prestigious and relevant Spanish economists since the 1950s and currently Honorary President of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, and Antonio Fonfría, PhD in Economics, renowned academic professor and author of numerous publications in the field of economics and the defence industry, as well as economic intelligence, and both collaborators of CESEDEN for several decades, were appointed honorary professors of the Centre

Agreement with the Public Prosecutor's Office

Previously, also at CESEDEN, the JEMAD and the Crown Prosecutor of the State, Álvaro García Ortiz, signed a collaboration agreement between the two institutions for collaboration in training and research activities in the field of national security.
