  • The Ambassador of Albania to Spain took part in the military ceremony.

The Albanian Ambassador to Spain, Gazmend Barbullushi, visited the NATO Combined Air Operations Centre in Spain (CAOCT) to commemorate the National Day of his country.

The Ambassador was received by the Commander-in-Chief of the Unit, Lieutenant General Fernando De la Cruz, with whom he held a brief meeting. After the meeting, the Ambassador joined the military ceremony with which the CAOCT commemorated Albania's National Day and at which the Albanian flag was raised.

During his speech, General De la Cruz thanked the Albanian ambassador for attending the ceremony and for the contribution of his country to the collective effort to defend Europe's airspace in the framework of NATO's Air Policing mission.

The Albanian Ambassador underlined the importance of the daily work carried out by the staff of CAOC Torrejón to achieve a European airspace free of threats or dangers. After a brief historical review of the event, he stressed the importance of the National Day for the Albanian people, thanking the CAOCT the celebration of this event.

COMBINED AIR OPERATIONS CENTRE-TORREJÓN

The main mission of CAOC Torrejón, commanded by a Spanish Air Force Lieutenant General, is to plan, direct, coordinate, supervise, analyse and report on air defence operations in southern Europe following the directives of NATO's air component command with the assigned assets by NATO in peacetime.

The Spanish Armed Forces are making an important contribution to the mission conducted by this facility. Roughly 120 military personnel are assigned to the CAOC as well as to the National Support Element (NSE) and the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA).
