A member of the Spanish Verification Unit (UVE) was part of the multinational team led by AMAT (Ammunition Management Advisory Team) which from 20 to 29 November was in charge of carrying out the safety assessments within the framework of the IATG (International Ammunition Technical Guidelines).
In August 2022, the SVU already supported AMAT in a second assessment of ammunition depots by visiting three detachments. That started a close collaboration with AMAT that continues today. The personnel designated to provide this support have been validated through a UN process that qualifies them to join the assessment teams.
During this second visit, assessments were carried out in Vitor (Arequipa province) and Punta Lobos (Lima) in order to get an overall view of the management of the ammunition depots and arsenals.
After evaluating the different ammunition depots and after having held meetings with the heads of the logistical support units, the AMAT team issued a technical report to be submitted to the United Nations and presented to the Peruvian Ministry of Defence.
The results obtained in the evaluations, as well as the recommendations of the team of consultants, with the aim of reducing the different risks, were presented on the 28th at the facilities of the Peruvian Ministry of Defence. The UVE expert was in charge of the presentation, as well as the translation of the final report into Spanish.
