  • The Spanish Verification Unit is the unit responsible for ensuring compliance with the arms control treaties signed by most European countries within the framework of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)

The UVE, a unit under the Defence Staff (EMAD), led a Vienna Document 2011 Inspection in Cyprus from 25 to 28 October, the objective of which was to verify that no military activities were taking place that had not been notified in advance.

During the first day of the inspection they visited the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade, where they were able to learn about the organization of the Cypriot National Guard. They also had the opportunity to inspect the Naval Base 'Evangelos Florakis'.

During the second day of the inspection, in addition to visiting the facilities of the General Staff of the National Guard in Nicosia, where they received various briefings, they flew over the specified area in a Cypriot Air Force AW-139 helicopter.

Cyprus demonstrated throughout its compliance with the Vienna Document and this was conveyed to the Cypriot Escort Team by the Head of the Inspection Team.
