Chief of the Defence Staff visits Maritime Operational Command Headquarters in Cartagena

Chief of Defence Staff, admiral general Teodoro Esteban López Calderón has visited today Maritime Operational Command Headquarters (MOM), the logistic cargo vessel (BTL in Spanish) A-06 'Ysabel' and submarine S-81 'Isaac Peral'.

The delegation that accompanied ESP CHOD was made up of personnel from the Operations Command and from the Armament Procurement Office.

Upon arrival, ESP CHOD was welcomed at MOM Headquarters, by the Commander of the Maritime Operational Command, vice admiral Juan Luis Sobrino Pérez-Crespo, where he was brifed onMOM's missions and capabilities.

Afterwards, ESP CHOD visited the vessel A-06 'Ysabel', where he was welcomed by the Commander of the Cartagena Arsenal, vice admiral Pedro Luis de la Puente Mora-Figueroa, and the he visited submarine S-81 'Isaac Peral'.

Maritime Operational Command (MOM)

MOM is part of the operational structure of the Armed Forces, reporting to the Chief of Defence Staff, and it is responsible for planning, conducting and monitoring maritime surveillance and security operations. It is under the command structure of the Admiral of Maritime Action (ALMART in Spanish), vice admiral Juan Luis Sobrino Pérez-Crespo.

Permanent Operations

Permanent Operational Commands, as well as their assigned missions, are an additional tool to reinforce the commitment of the Armed Forces to Spain's security, its sovereignty and the defence of its interests.

The abovementioned commitment get proved by the ongoing surveillance of sovereign spaces, which includes our borders, territorial waters, national and outer airspace, and cyberspace, as well as in the permanent control of all air activity that takes place in the national airspace. The Land (MOT), Maritime (MOM) and Aerospace (MOA) Operational Commands and the Joint Cyberspace Command (MCCE) make up the Permanent Commands structure.

On a daily basis, over 10% of Spanish Armed Forces personnel carry out ongoing tasks in areas of responsability and also within the cyberspace.
