Spanish Verification Unit conducts a CFE Inspection drill at the Airborne Brigade Headquarters

• Spanish Verification Unit (UVE) has conducted a training drill for inspection and escort teams according to the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) Treaty guidelines, at the Airborne Brigade Headquarters (BRIPAC)

During the VERIFEX drill conducted at BRIPAC's Headquarters, UVE personnel's knowledge with regard to the CFE Treaty acquired on inspector and escort positions has been put into practice.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no arms control activities have been conducted in applicable areas of the CFE Treaty and Vienna Document 2011, since March 2020.

In anticipation of resuming this type of missions as soon as health conditions allow it, and given the fact that it is impossible to conduct this sort of drill at the international level; personnel from the Spanish Verification Unit will conduct drills within Army and Air Force compounds located in Madrid, during the months of April and June 2021.

The practice carried out in a real unit, along with the incidents raised, unify operational criteria and optimise the learning process for inspectors and escorts, and increase the readiness of the units engaged in arms control, bringing them closer to reality in the event of a real inspection, both active and passive, to be conducted by the Kingdom of Spain.
