The Expeditionary Combat Group (ECG) ‘Dédalo 25’ has set sail from the naval base of Rota. Under the command of the Defence Staff (EMAD) and the operational control of the Operations Command (MOPS), it has begun the first phase of this naval deployment, which will last until mid-March, in areas of the central Mediterranean and the Aegean.
The main objectives of the ‘Dédalo 25’ are to contribute to deterrence and defence, to prove its commitment to allied countries, to project the capabilities of naval forces, and to demonstrate its logistical autonomy and flexibility to undertake all types of mission, from those of the highest military complexity to those of humanitarian aid.
The amphibious aircraft carrier ‘Juan Carlos I’, where the Second Landing Battalion of the Marine Infantry Brigade embarks, with its combat and logistical support, is one of the ships taking part in this deployment. This tactical grouping consists of more than 670 troops and 100 vehicles.
The frigates ‘Blas de Lezo’ and ‘Victoria’ are also part of the naval group. ‘SH-60F’ troop transport helicopters, ‘SH-60B’ anti-submarine and surface warfare helicopters; and ‘Harrier AV8B+’ aircraft, all belonging to the Aircraft Flee, complete the force. Landing craft from the Maritime Beach Group are also included. The force also comprises Marine Operational Security Teams and an Operational Diving Team.
During the deployment, the group will conduct naval-air and amphibious operations in areas far from national territory. In addition, the ‘Dédalo 25’ Expeditionary Combat Group will conduct bilateral activities with NATO allies such as Italy, Greece and Turkey.
It will then take part in Steadfast Dart 25, NATO's most ambitious exercise for 2025. The ‘Dédalo 25’ will provide the amphibious task force of the Maritime Component Command.
With the Dédalo, Spain is fulfilling its military commitment to the Alliance in the interests of international peace and security. It also demonstrates Spain's ability to project stability beyond our borders and to protect maritime traffic and the use of international airspace, always in close cooperation with Alliance nations and allied countries.
